With the many major film and TV series productions
taking place in and around Atlanta and A-list celebrity
sightings becoming commonplace, Atlanta is fast becoming
the Hollywood of the South. A quick scan on the
internet will provide a very long list of noteworthy
movies and shows being filmed here. According to the
website P3update.com, Georgia ranks among the top 10
filming locations in the world. The most notable
reasons are the tax incentives, the diverse backdrops
and the weather.
Created in 2008, The Georgia Entertainment Industry
Investment Act, has boosted the state-tax credit for
qualified production and postproduction expenditures up
by 30 percent. Georgia also offers a Sales & Use Tax
Exemption, which gives qualified productions an
immediate point-of-purchase sales-tax exemption on some
of their materials, service purchases or rentals. In
addition to the appeal of financial savings, production
companies can find a backdrop of urban high rises, rural
mountains and sandy coastlines all within one state,
with many months of sun and little threat of a hurricane
or snow storms.
With a variety of commercial properties located in the
most popular of Atlanta’s submarkets, JGRE has played a
behind-the-scenes role in this trend by leasing space to
a number of production companies working on projects
both small and “Hollywood large” in scope.
